Uglich

From Yaroslavl we went back up the Volga and continued upstream until we reached Uglich.

The Memorial Church of "Dimitry-in-Blood"

This is where Dimitry, the youngest son of Ivan the Terrible
met a suspicious death at the hands of Boris Godunov.

The Cathedral of the Transfiguration built in 1713

After we left Uglich we proceeded further up the Volga.
When dams were built to make the Volga navagable, many towns were flooded.
This is what remains of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in one of these flooded towns.

This photo provides some contrast of old and new.
